Magnetic levitation + inductive charging = OvRcharge
I first discovered OvRcharge on Kickstarter back in July, and I was impressed by its design. Making wireless charging possible on an iPhone is cool, but making it look good is an achievement - and Canada-based AR Designs seems to have nailed it.
AR Designs explains their project with very simple science. The OvRcharge consists of two parts - the smartphone case with the magnet and the inductive receiver, and a base. The magnets help the phone to levitate mid-air with the coil in the base induces current to the case.
While I was impressed by its implementation, I didn’t find OvRcharge to be anything spectacular. It’s an awesome party trick, but will you really want one, considering its unreasonable price of upwards of $200?
AR Designs has, however, successfully reached their Kickstarter campaign goal, which means this project will likely come to the market.
