Nexus started off as Google’s take of the ideal Android Phone. As Wikipedia states, Google manages the design, development, marketing and support for these devices (although the OEMs manufacture the device). And this it the very fact millions of Android fans look forward to the yearly upgrade to the Nexus family.
Two years ago, we saw the Nexus 5. According to many, the Nexus 5 was the most popular Nexus of all time: it had the specs, the software and pricing of an ideal stock Android phone. Even now, the Nexus 5 is probably one of the best stock Android phones you can use.
Last year was the year of the large screen phones. The Nexus 6 is a beast of a phone, not only in performance, but even in looks. The beautiful 6” Quad HD display paired with the quad core Snapdragon 805 and 3 GB of RAM makes it a premium phone. This, although great, made this model far more costly and for some, too large to handle.
And today we are here. Tomorrow is going to be another day for Nexus fanboys to celebrate, for a new… wait, not ‘a’ new, but ‘two’ new Nexus phones are coming!
Lets round up the leaks.
5.2” 1080p display, 13 MP camera, fingerprint sensor, Snapdragon 808 SoC with 2 or 3 GB RAM. Made by LG.
5.7” Quad HD display, Snapdragon 810 with 3 GB RAM, 11 MP camera, fingerprint sensor. Made by Huawei.
Okay, so those are the expected specs. The new Nexus phones are definitive upgrades to the original Nexus 5 and 6 models. Both the new phones will have fingerprint scanners on the back and (absurdly) protruding cameras. The 6P will have a metal body while the 5X will probably stick with plastic. The pictures above describe it all.
We also expect a new Chromecast that’ll hopefully still cost just $35.
And that is about it. Let’s look forward to tomorrow’s event and see the phones for ourselves! The event starts at 9:30 PM IST or 9 AM PT, and the live video will stream on YouTube.
