There aren’t many times I get bewildered by a car, even if it is a supercar. Until it came to this.
It is a hypercar: beyond the reigns of a supercar. It has a mind boggling, astonishing (over) 1500 break horse power. 1797 bhp, in fact, according to tests. Yes. The Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse, for example, has 1184. And it looks absolutely killer:
It is called the Koenigsegg Regera. Recently unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show, this car absolutely kills what stats mean. 284 mph (400 km/h) in under 20 seconds. A hybrid with three electric motors. 5.0 L V8. 2100 Nm of torque. A 9.7 kW battery that can take the car 31 miles on the electric engine.
So is it the fastest? Well, they haven’t pitted it against the fastest yet. But I assure, that will be a big battle to look for.
Koenigsegg is a small Swidish super car manufacturer, their top model being the Agera. The Regera is just the next level. With the Regera, Koenigsegg has not only brought extreme performance, but also eco friendliness and of course, a lot of luxury. The car is the world’s first fully robotised car: it means all physical work is done hydraulically. It features active front and rear wings, chassis control and a lifting system. It has Dihedral Synchro Helix Doors (wow) that swing out and rotate 90 degrees to fully clear the door opening. And it has Constellation day time running lights that just make the car look more spectacular.
When it comes to the interiors, you’ll get, "added insulation, 8 way electrically adjustable memory foam seats. A Koenigsegg 9” infotainment system, 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity, front, inner and rear camera system with recording capability, Apple CarPlay, supreme sound system, ambient lighting and many other great new features."
The Regera also comes with front and rear parking sensors and remote diagnostic and firmware update capability.
All in all, its a beast. It IS what its name means - Regera, or 'to reign’. The car costs $1.9 million and only 80 of them will be sold.
Lots more coverage from the Geneva Motor Show coming up! Keep Technonerding.
