The Electric GT Championship will hold its first season this year, and this modified Tesla Model S will be the chief (and the only) competitor. The competition was announced last year with a modified Model S P85D, but the new car is based on the latest P100D model. And yes, it does 0-60 in 2 seconds flat (0-62mph or 0-100 km/h in 2.1 seconds).
Although it is based on the P100D model, this Model S is no ordinary Tesla. First of all, it sheds 1100 pounds (500 kg) of weight and adds racing suspensions, brakes and Pirelli PZero track tyres. Add to that custom 585kWh motors and you get a whopping 778 bhp on this Tesla, and the weight loss makes this already-quick car even quicker.
Electric GT shows us this car a few days ago at Autosport International Show in Birmingham, UK. With their show in the Live Action Arena, Electric GT proved that, as AutoBlog puts it, “EVs can produce emissions in the form of huge clouds of tire smoke.”
The championship will include ten teams of two drivers each competing on seven European tracks, including Formula E’s Donington Park and the Nürburgring's GP course.
For now, let us admire the sheer awesomeness of this modified Tesla Model S!
