Microsoft. The great company saw its greatest downfall in the last few years. Windows 8 failed user expectations, Lumia never grew at the pace it was meant to. There was barely any innovation in the company. And just as people started considering it to be dead, here came this press conference.
Windows 10 was introduced last year - it brought back the classic start window and a simpler, better interface. It would be a minor design change, with taking the best of windows 7 and 8 to create a modern, “Windows" like look. The greatest thing, however, was that this one operating system will run across all Microsoft devices, tablets, phones, laptops, desktops, even the Xbox. Which means they’ve streamlined their OS to one key product, which is good.
Still, until now, we haven’t known as much about the further innovations the company would do with Windows.
Microsoft held a press conference last week, on the 21st of Jan, 2015. They did show a lot of Windows, and a lot of innovation around it.
Microsoft announced the amazing success of their Insider program, which was intended for pre-releasing Windows 10 to developers and reviewers, who would recommend changes to Windows. The program has over 1.7 million Insiders currently. They also updated the pricing of Windows: FREE Upgrade for those running Windows 7 and 8.1 for 1 year.
Cortana, Microsoft’s version of personal voice assistants, is now coming to PC’s and tablets, now you can literally say “Hey Cortana” to search everything form files to the web. Pretty cool! Microsoft also announced their new web browser, code named Project Spartan. It would be ultra modern, very responsive and having a lot of tricks up its sleeve. Office is also being updated for touch, with universal apps for phone, tablet and PC. Another example of Microsoft’s streamlining.
Before I go the the key product of the event; Microsoft showed its 84” Surface Hub that ran Windows 10 and custom versions of Skype and OneNote, ideal for offices and business hubs.
Okay, now. Take a deep breath, for what you will see and read is some of the most innovative usages of Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality. The Microsoft HoloLens. Take a look at the video...
Wasn’t that amazing? Yeah, that thing actually works: Windows 10 is the world’s first holographic platform with developer API’s. All Windows apps run holographically on this device. Plus, HoloLens features a full fledged computer with it: It has everything from high quality cameras and sensors to integrated HD speakers. Even the holographs themselves are viewed in HD. Microsoft HoloLens allows you to create, edit, manage, build, entertain and communicate all in one powerful headset. So you can Skype in air, play Minecraft across your house and design 3D objects on the go… fantastic!
That was it from the event. Microsoft is truly coming with a bang, regaining the respect it’ed lost. Hoping a lot of new fad from this company!
