Elon Musk is starting a new company (again), and this time it is a biotechnology startup: specifically, to making a computer chip that can be embedded in a human brain.
Through information from internal sources, the Wall Street Journal announced on Monday that Musk’ new company will be called ‘Neuralink’ and will develop technology called neural lace. This is the tunnel that connects the neutrons in the brain to the electric flow in the chip. This will expand upon the brain’s capabilities.
Musk says that this kind of neural linking will allow humans to be more powerful than artificial intelligence in the long run. Musk has always believed that if we develop AI that can teach itself, it will grow to an extent that humans will become slaves to the AI. Musk is even working on setting limitations to AI in order to dodge any future risks.
Many other companies are working on related technologies to help in disease recovery and prevention. But research in this field is hard because we still don’t have powerful imaging systems that can scan the electrical impulses in small sets of neurones. But with big players entering this domain, there is indeed a lot of hope.
There is a lot to be learned about Neuralink, starting with an official announcement my Musk himself. Looking forward to that!
