NextEV, a Chinese startup, first debut the NIO brand last year when they announced the most powerful electric supercar, the EV9. Now, the SXSW 2107 in Austin, Texas, the company unveiled its Eve concept. Eve should debut in 2020 as a luxury vehicle in the US market.
Right away, you notice the futuristic looks of this car, but it isn’t anything surprisingly new. Faraday Future’s FF91, BMW’s i8 and (another Silicon Valley startup) Lucid’s Air carry a similar design. Eve is designed to maximize comfort; it is aimed at the commuters of 2020 who want complete autonomy of their car while being able to relax or work on the road.
The seating layout of this car is particularly unique. Different seats are intended for different purposes: in the front you can choose to drive or discover your surroundings though the interactive display, and on the back, there is one seat for relaxing and another two for working. The doors itself can be tinted and used as a giant displays. While it all looks interesting, we never know how much will make it to the production unit.
Everything in this car is controlled by the AI assistant called ’Nomi’. Nomi can identify you, reply to you meaningfully and even understand your feelings. It sits in the middle of the dash and gives both audio and visual cues.
The car looks promising indeed, but development will heavily depend on partnerships the startup will make. NIO is currently working with MobileEye to develop technology for this vehicle. It has centres in China, UK, Germany and the US (Silicon Valley) working in unity to develop this car.
We should learn more about this car and the company in the near future, but here’s their website if you want to know more: www.nio.io/visioncar
