Dave Hakkens. That’s the guy behind the amazing idea of “a phone worth keeping”. Watch this video before you begin reading:
So, you have just seen what Phonebloks is all about, you must be wondering what has happened to this in the past year.
So here is a short report.
After the video was released, Phonebloks became a super hit on the internet. It received over 380,000,000 thunderclaps and 979,253 supporters (Thunderclap is a website made for supporting ideas, as in the video). And with so much support from the people, Phonebloks approached many top technology and phone companies from all over the world. And Google (initially as Motorola) took this up with its Project Ara - a modular phone concept.
Today there are many other companies currently supporting the project -
So how does Phonebloks i.e. Ara work? Every component of the device slides onto the board, and magically (electronically), it all gets connected and becomes one whole phone.
The progress has been quiet a lot and quiet fast since then. So much, in fact, that there is already a “working” model of the device. Components/Bloks have been successfully developed and are now in the testing stages.
The device is actually set to launch in the first quarter of 2015, and will probably launch with a price tag of under $100, making it a super impressive deal.
So will this be the future of the box we hold in our hand? Seriously speaking, YES! Sure, its nothing like we have ever experienced in real, but the need for an upgradable phone is more than required. The innovation that has gone under this project is simply incomparable. This project has been acknowledged all over the world, by agencies including Al Jazeera, CNN and the BBC.
Only time will tell what the future of this future phone is. Anyways, do check out their website and join their community if you have any ideas. Here is the link:
