Skype - the most serious video conferencing app - is getting a complete, fun-filled overhaul. In addition to the all-new design, Skype is getting it’s own version of ‘stories’, called Highlights.
The key focus of the new Skype app is lively conversations. The new app will have three primary tabs: find, chat and capture. You will be able to personalize the app to your own colour, and react with emoticons in conversations - chat, audio or video.
Moreover, Microsoft is pushing Skype as a hub for AI assistant bots. The Skype bot framework has already allowed bot development for Skype, but the new ‘Find’ tab will help find bots that will do everyone from finding GIFs to reading you the news. From within the app, you can check the weather or find restaurants.
The new Skype will be rolling out to Android users first, immediately followed by an update to the iPhone app. Windows and Mac apps will also receive updates in the coming months.
